Hello!

Hi, I have a 2 year old daughter who just won’t touch vegetables or fruit. I have to force her to eat a 1/4 piece of apple a day & even then she spits it out on the floor. It’s a struggle. Vegetables I don’t even bother trying anymore cos they just end up on the floor & me screaming at her. She will eat the raffy’s gardens baby pouches but I can’t keep buying them as they cost too much to buy each week. I have tried buying the reusable bags to doing the puree myself but she still won’t touch them. Advice need desperately.

  • I have a Nutri Ninja and I make juice with spinach, apple, pear, banana or whatever fruit I have. My 2yo LOVES drinking this with a straw she’s always asking for green juice… I can even get my teenager to eat spinach this way haha

  • My son was the same I only had certain Veggies and I would mash them all up with potato and only make a small amount so they can see there is an end to it , otherwise it’s to stressful on them, add a little salt taste test yourself 17 years later I still mash them but my son is autistic and they are gone within 3 mins

  • let the use tongs to try pick them up – they have fun while eating then.
put them on skewers, or prepare them in different ways such as grating them, making apple rings etc. My daughter doesn’t like cheese much, but if I grate it, she seems to like the texture and the look of it and inevitably eats it.

  • Hide them in recipes. Grated fruits and veggies can feel added to so much. Get them to help you get meals ready, make pictures with them. More fun = more eating. Try it

  • Oh mumma I feel you! My little guy was exactly the same! Would eat store bought all day but with mine Nope. He has gotten to a stage now where I need to make things into shapes he likes. So I use mini cookie cutters to cut shapes into his cheese, watermelon, Apple, cucumber etc.

  • yeah we just have to try to make food fun. also depending on what stage of development your child is at, you could try giving them a plastic knife and let them cut their banana and also for a treat, dip it in chocolate. it’s half healthy and at least they will have something substantial

  • everyone has great comments.
    this is a familiar story…

  • I’m still looking for answers on this one myself, but have found that since we started a small vegie/fruit garden in the backyard the kids have been more eager to try new things. We just made sure they were involved in buying the seedlings, building the garden, etc…

  • Make buying fruit and vegetables a fun thing to do i used to take my kids to.the market with a basket to cjoose what they wanted to eat and they actually ended up wanting to.eat it as it was special.

  • I would keep going with the rafferties, even if you use them to mix in with pasta or if its the packet she likes maybe look at getting some reusable ones. You may have to back off on the vegies and start ‘hiding’ them in what she will eat, also try not to stress, its a battle remember! dont show weakness!

  • try fruit on sticks dice fruit up and do fruit skewers other wise apple cakes carrot cakes etc, hid it in cakes see if there are any fruit bars he might like that hide the fruit.

  • I’ll go along with the smoothies, our DD was the same, however we never forced her to eat them.

  • Smoothies are great for sneaking stuff in :)
We use one in our house & sneak more into it-
Almond milk or coconut water. Banana, Lsa, spinach, oats
Frozen berries tastes so nice. But you add whatever to it

  • Hide them in food. eg grated carrot in sauce. Banana Muffins. Also if you know another child that is a good eater let her see them eat an apple ext. She prob likes the ease of the Raffy’s gardens pouches. I would simply stop buying the pouches. Put veggies on her plate, one day she might surprise you on her own :-)

  • I read your update and though bugger, I was going to suggest hiding the vegies, grating, really small diced pieces, all eat the same meal. No fruit or veggies no yummy treats you know she likes. Would a sticker chart help? Don’t forget to talk lovingly about the veggies, carrots help you see better, broccoli gives you strong arms, not even eating mashed potato? I loved my mashed potato and still prefer it now over any other from of cooking and eating it.
