Hello!

I have just bought new yellow sports uniforms for my 7 year old twins but dread seeing what they look like in just a few weeks! The dirt and grime come out but it seems to be art classes that are the problem. Any suggestions are welcome.

  • My kids had yellow school uniforms, I purchased enough to have one a day and we put them straight in to soak at the end of each day, then made sure they were washed either separately or with the whites, I even dried them in the shade so they didn’t fade

  • Napisan is a fantastic stain remover. There’s a spray and a soak, I use both. Or you could buy aprons for when they have art classes

  • Keep them away from the scissors… I was very surprised to find some ties cut (apparently children do accidentally snip their own uniforms and it wasn’t someone else). It can happen when they hold something near themselves and snip into the shirt/top they are wearing.

  • Have you tried Napisan? I use the stain remover spray as well as the bucket soak for difficult stains. I love it and have found it removes most stains, some take a couple of goes

  • Our school, my kids wear art smocks for any painting.

  • Yes I would soak in Napisan for sure!

  • Maybe speak to the art teacher and offer to bring in an art smock or old shirt that they can wear during art class. I did this and the teacher was more than happy to use.

  • Mel 1,
Depending on the type of material are you able to gently scrape some of the glue off? It may be going on to other clothes in the washing.
To all Mums, I would be attempting to find out what type of paint they are using. The container it comes in might even have removal instructions on it,

  • Definitely a large shirt maybe an old one of yours and insist that they remember to use them.

  • Also; a good long soak in Napisan/soaker works well too.

  • Instead of an art smock get them a cheap dark coloured t-shirt in a size or 2 bigger and they can use that

  • it’s sport – they get dirty LOL – napisan

  • There is a terrific article on cleaning uniforms on the blog; worth taking a look.

  • Perhaps they can wear a smock for art classes. Our primary school insisted on this and it helped enormously as not all paints and glues wash out.
