Hello!

My now 5 year old has never been good at going to bed at night since birth. She used to take long day naps but not for 3 1/2 yrs now. It’s 10:30 and she is still getting up and now she has added defiance to the equation. We have a the same bed time routine daily, she does all the necessary things before bed (toilet, drink etc), we don’t feed her a heap of junk food, she gets plenty of exercise. She is otherwise a very normal happy kid. This nightly routine is the single most disruptive thing in the life of our family. She shares a room with her sister usually, and at the moment with my husband and I (we are living overseas in tight accommodation) but this hasn’t made things worse. If anyone has any other ideas, I would be glad to try anything at this point.

  • have you seen that old show supper nanny or any of her other shows. her name is jo. they can be extremely helpful for people struggling and you can pick and choose what works best for you from the different episodes

  • This was a while ago but an update would be awesome!

  • Hope she is sleeping better for you now

  • Oh that must be so tough. Wort case, if nothing else is working, it’s probably worth a trip to the GP

  • How is she going now?

  • Is she sleeping any better for you now?

  • There have been some really good articles on Mouths Of Mum so maybe do a search for different ideas/techniques from those too.

  • How are they going now? Any better?

  • Is she hvn her day sleeps still? Maybe u should stop them if I read it right?

  • Good luck with getting some sleep :( its not easy

  • Also a night light may help, it does for my 4 year old she has it on and when we go to bed we turn the night light off.

  • My children if they have a full stomach they tend to sleep better, but if they didn’t eat their dinner properly then they tend to wake during the night cause their hungry. Good luck and hopefully soon they’ll sleep through the night.

  • Good luck too. I hope you get a good nights sleep soon

  • I’m reding the and hoping this is not what is going to happen with my two year old that isn’t the best sleeper

  • Just persevere, it could just be the surroundings and will get better when those change
