Hi I just purchased second hand leather couches which are in immaculate condition but after cleaning them and and setting them up in the house, they have this weired leather/cigarette stench. I used leather cleaner and went over it again and lifted the cushions out but I just can’t get rid of the smell. Can anyone recommend a solution. Tia

  • I would try sprinkling them with bicarbonate of soda, letting it sit for a while and vacuuming off. Patch test on an inconspicuous spot first

  • Thanks for the answer – do you know the name of the leather cleaner?

  • you can buy a leather cleaner that has lavender in it – it is awesome. some of the nil odour and orange based products are good, but follow directions

  • The smell of cigarette smoke is hard to remove. I was given a very expensive used bag in excellent condition apart from the smell of cigarette smoke. It just lingers and will not go – seems to have permeated into the leather. I would love to know how to remove or mask the smell. Would love to get an answer to this question too.
