Hello!

This time last year, I weighed 25kg less than I do at the moment. I’ve always struggled to maintain my weight. You name it I’ve tried it and I just tend to lose motivation. I’m an emotional eater and….well…..I’ve been REALLY emotional the last few months!

  • This is so hard. Set yourself a specific and small goal (like losing 2kg in two months). Don’t buy sweet treats etc so they’re not on hand when you’re feeling emotional.

  • Oh how I wish I knew. I am too easily side tracked as well. Motivation is seriously lacking in my life when it comes to diet and exercise

  • I answered this question back in 2016 and three years later I still haven’t found any motivation :(

  • Man, I could have written this post! Matthew Machoney said today: sweat a bit each day (i.e., do enough activity to sweat).

  • I tend to lose motivation very quickly if I don’t see the scale moving in the right direction. I need to persevere, but it’s really hard.

  • I think that is a hard one. You’ve got to really want it to loose weight and often it is a combination of correct diet (wholegrains, vegetables, fibre, nojunk food etc.) and exercise that does the job, and you may need motivating in both these areas to stay on track. I think so long as you see your weight as “cosmetic” and something you’d like to change (but which is really quite optional) then motivation can come and go. If you tie in your weight to your health and life expectancy and quality of life I think the motivation can go up. Google information to see how weight affects how long you live. Once you realize that weight is not “optional” but tied into how many more hours you have on this planet, you might find the motivation to keep at the correct diet and exercise level! Think of loved ones; think of that last moment alive and then imagine you could extend it by 15 years if you just did the right thing now with your weight!

  • Try to set small goals and maybe buy a top that you fancy a size smaller than yours and you will be motivated to loose weight…

  • How are you going with this? I’m in the same position as you! :( It’s hard but try to keep thinking about how far you’ve come rather than how far you’ve got to go.

  • If you have the money, maybe joining a gym could help. Just the fact you’ve paid for it and don’t want to waste your money might be incentive enough. Places like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers have great support networks, if you can afford them

  • Good question, I’ld like an answer for that! You could try a training buddy to keep you focussed and motivated

  • keep going my dear – I am so proud of you!! I have lost 48kg and know all your emotions and struggles… Give yourself permission to shine!!

  • I’m the same, what helped me a lot was keeping mostly fresh healthy food in the house ,

  • Motivation is hard, but making it routine is a little easier. Once it becomes routine then you will really miss those days when you haven’t been able to exercise due to work etc. I rarely feel like going for a run (I run 4 times a week) but on those more difficult days I say to myself ‘if I never ran on the days when I don’t feel like it, I would never run at all’. And once I’m out the door I’m so glad I made the effort to get out! Schedule it in your diary, and treat it like part of your routine.

  • Yes I reckon to find something you like to do!

  • No advice but good luck!
