Hello!

My daughter is almost 7 and over the last month she has started half sitting, half standing while at the dinner table. My husband and I are constantly asking her to sit down properly while eating dinner. It now happens at all meal times and is becoming quite frustrating. I have asked why she does this, but she doesn’t know, its like she doesn’t even realise that she is doing it. Mu husband doesn’t always have dinner with us as he is working, but I always ensure that I have dinner with the kids at the table. Has anyone else been through this with their kids and if so, how did you deal with it.

  • Have you thought about a weighted lap bag ? It may help her to sit for longer reducing restlessness

  • Repetition is your best solution – just keep reminding her every time she does it. Hopefully it will eventually break the habit.

  • I have a 3yr old walking constantly and a slouchy 9yr old. I was thinking of stools. The wind up and down ones to get the right height for them but don’t know if it will work.

  • Oh my goodness my 4 year old son has started doing this and it frustrates me to no end! I will be watching the answers with interest.

  • Is the chair too low that she feels she has to be higher? You could try a cushion?? good luck

  • Try putting something on her lap that will fall if she stands, like paper or a book. Or let her stand for an entire meal :) I can imagine it does get annoying.
