Make a plan to avoid it where possible, especially avoid car trips, transitions are a nightmare in the heat. Spend the day at the library or somewhere air-conditioned if you have none at home. Cool cloths or even a lunchtime ‘bath Party’ are good fun depending on the ages too!
Where I live it gets extremely hot & sticky, on a hot heat day we tend to stick on the a/c in one room and do activities, have a picnic and watch movies.
Hit the shopping centre or go to the library. The library is best because there is so much to do in there (its not just books these days). Our library has a Special area for small children and they reading & game days. All free!
We close off rooms like the bathroom, tolilet and laundry. Helps the air con to cool the rooms we are using.

Not all have the opportunity to escape to a shopping centre. As far as your house is concerned, keep the blinds down and curtains closed on all rooms not being used at that time. Open the door of one closed and you will notice the difference in temperature. Drink plenty of cold water. In case of a power failure put some cold water in bottles or jugs and put them in a good cooler bag so you have cold drinks without letting heat into your fridge. You could also do the same with food you plan on eating at lunch time. Prepare it, put it in containers, into a cooler bag. If you have freezer blocks you can put some in amongst them if you want to. If you have a baby boil and cool some water in advance unless you have a gas cooker.
