  • Try adding baking soda and vinegar or eucalyptus oil directly to your washing machine to eliminate diesel smells during the wash cycle. If the diesel smell is on your hands, scrub them with detergent and salt, lemon juice, or a mechanic’s degreasing hand wash like Fast Orange.

  • I add a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil to my wash cycles. Seems to remove most strong odours

  • Try using eucalyptus odoban from home depot. They have other scents available.

  • Try soaking them regularly in Napisan. It really is a wonder cleaner and removes most stains and smells

  • vinegar – add a cup into the machine and wash an old towel on longest wash – my ex was a diesel mechanic!

  • I agree with the use of eucalyptus and hope you had some success with getting rid of the smell?

  • Thanks for all your wonderful answers, will take them all on aboard!

  • I second the eucalyptus answers and then once a week, “clean” your machine by running a cycle without clothes in it and add 3/4 cup vinegar and wash it on a hot cycle.

  • My step father is a diesel mechanic & my mum always used to was his clothes with a eucalyptus washing powder. It worked great & our clothes never smelt like diesel even though we all used the same washing machine.

  • I have never had this problem, but I use carb soda (bicarbonate of soda) for all my cleaning problems. I would suggest putting about a half a packet of carb soda on your machine with the clothes and soaking them for a few hours, then drain and rinse. You could then put them through the wash cycle with your usual washing powder or liquid. Hope it works!

  • Use regular detergent, plus two cups of vinegar or one cup of baking soda, in the hottest water allowed according to the garment’s care label. You can also add essential oil to the detergent.

  • Try adding a little eucalyptus oil in with your wash
