Hello!

How do you get them out of the shower instead of taking forever in there?

  • My teenagers shower longer then 3 minutes, but shower every other day. I don’t fuzz about how long they shower

  • Maybe use one of those egg cup timers?

  • Perhaps give them a few more minutes.

  • 3 minutes is very little ! I can’t do it in 3min myself and don’t expect it from our kids.

  • We have an egg timer for the shower – very visual – but honestly, we have to keep knocking on the door and haul them out.

  • A 3 minute shower you dont even have enought time to wash your hair

  • Do you want the kids to be clean I cant have a three minute shower

  • We can’t even get our boy (he’s 3) to have a shower. But its a 20 minute ordeal to get him in the bath then once he’s in we can’t get him out again. Good luck with yours. Maybe just turn off the hot water or something?

  • My goodness, 3 mins is an extremely quick shower! Maybe you could play music and give them til the end of the song to turn the water off

  • Good luck with it – when showers were taking a long time, we made a competition to see who could be the quickest with a reward at the end of the challenge. The period of the challenge was over a month and this did change the behaviour to shorter showers, not 3 minutes, but thankfully shorter.

  • Good idea I will have to time myself and see how long I take in the shower and then time the kids and see the difference

  • Three minute showers are so tricky especially for teenagers. Always a good idea to time yourself and see how long you take in the shower. It can be quite a revelation.

  • Thanks everyone for your responses and I will definitely take them into consideration and try them out.

  • Oh my Yes !!!!! This has been driving us crazy too. Our 13 year old daughter doesn’t think anything is wrong with staying in for half an hour !!!!!!! We’ve got it down to 9 minutes using these ideas ;
    – We put a clock in the bathroom.
    – She takes in her ipad with the timer on it.
    – We have nagged and nagged her………….a lot.
    – When it’s time to get out , is when I fill the sink with hot water – thus making her shower cold.
    – I have threatened to charge her $1 per minute for every minute over 5 minutes.
    – I have done a lot more nagging, banging on the wall, counting to three etc.
    – We have also tried the calm rational approach.
I think that losing her ipad for a week recently, (for a separate issue,) improved her co-operative nature, therefore making her try harder to have a quicker shower.
    Good luck. :)

  • I bought a timer for my daughter that she keeps in her bathroom. She sets it on every time, but then she doesn’t go out of the shower, so I don’t think it’s really helping!! :-)
