Hello!

We have recently had an addition to our family household, we now have a very enquisitive and playful 4 month old kitten. My kids still want to put up the Christmas tree but I am not so keen as I don’t know how to keep our kitty away as I am afraid he will get hurt.  Thanks in advance.

  • Another idea is to give the kids all a small Christmas tree for their bedroom and have them decorate it themselves. I did this for several years and they loved it

  • What about a Christmas tree wall decoration, have you thought of that ?

  • I’ve seen photos where people have surrounded the tree with baby gates and extensions to go right round it.

  • I hope it all went well with the kitten and the Christmas tree.

  • ha ha good luck. I’d put the decorations high on the tree (sorry kind of ruins the affect).

  • I remember our cat would love the Christmas tree, hope you had success with your kitten and the tree!

  • Good luck, my dear old cat used to knock the balls off the tree so I used to place non glass baubles at the base of the tree that seemed to do the trick. He had his own decorations to play with.

  • Good luck. We have had 4 cats. Every single one of them climbed the tree as a kitten. They knocked off decorations and used to just sit in there. They wont hurt themselves, but makes a bit of a mess.

  • Fun and games!!

  • The kitten might not hurt itself but the children could get injured in the process.
Also kittens don’t just chew things, then can stick their paws into things and sometimes get “stuck” too, just by their claws. The kittens may “try to open” the presents too. I have seen that happen once too often with two different cats (not just kittens).

  • We got 2 kittens (brother & sister) a few months before Xmas & when it came to getting the tree out, they were all over it before it even went up! There was no chance at all that we could keep the tree inside with them – so we set it up outside the living room sliding doors (undercover) so that we could see the tree, but the cats couldn’t get to it!

  • I wouldn’t worry about it to be honest. Its unlikely any injury would occur. Just wouldn’t have lights down bottom of tree so kitten could chew on them.

  • Thankyou for the advice. I will remember about no tinsel and lights and I am sure we will have a few laughs about a cute little face poking out through the branches. It is my daughters kitty, so it will be her job to pick up and rehang any fallen decorations.

  • We couldn’t put tinsel up as the kitten kept getting rangled in it so only had balls up

  • A kitten and a tree generally won’t result in any injuries. Maybe just cut back on the lights so he doesn’t electrocute himself!
