Hello!

“Hi I have a 17 mth old boy that is constantly screaming and squealing. It is ear piercing, embarrassing and annoying. Just wondering if anyone knows why he might be doing it and how I can stop him when he does this. He isn’t talking yet and I don’t think he does it for attention as he does it regardless. Any ideas would be great.” How do you stop a child from squealing?

  • I really don’t know what to suggest other than just hope they’ll grow out of it sooner rather than later.

  • Ask them to use their ‘indoor voice’ and speak at a lower volume than him

  • I suggest you have him visit a Child Psychologist. He may be making these sounds to create sound stimulation. This is often an indication of autism. The earlier this is diagnosed or ruled out you will learn how to stop this behavior.

  • Masking Tape? Sock in mouth? Lol just joking. Best way is to ignore it besides its very good for their lungs and makes them stronger.

  • Ohhh how i wish i knew the answer to this. Mine is 3.5 and still does it!!!! But now its even louder. hahah. Will read some of the other answers.

  • My little 5 1/2 month old does this too – I think it’s cute. I probably won’t find it so cute if he keeps it up for years – but I won’t be spraying him with water!

  • My daughter is 4 and still does it. It drives me mad and is embarrassing when we are at the shops. Tried everything to stop her but I guess she will when she’s ready

  • Hope this has been resolved for you.

  • how did you go? :)

  • He is just finding his voice – these are all just new noises. With mine I would give her another noise to make when the squelling was out of my patience range and that seemed to help.

  • Have you had any success in stopping the squealing?

  • Hope some of the advice below has helped

  • haha drives me mad too. ear plugs may help :)
