With Christmas around the corner it’s cheaper to make a few gifts than rack up debt

  • I love it when my kids make their own Christmas cards and give to us. They are treasured memories and guarantee a laugh (or a tear) in years to come.

  • I think that I would love to be able to make some gifts – if I had talent or time for that. I prefer handmade things.

  • I haven\’t gone back to making presents however my eldest sisters always give me a hand made gift at Christmas time. I think it is lovely!

  • I try and get the 4 year old to make things. Sometimes Its cards as they can be quiet expensive. Or I’ll try and do sauces/relish or maybe even just rumballs.

  • I knit so sometimes I will make something for gifts, not usually Christmas though as it is too hot!

  • I am not particularly crafty but I can decorate a cake and make a lolly wreath! I hve found I have to start very early with the christmas shopping, I have boxes with names on them in the wardrobe and I add to them each week

  • Yep, sure is. And I quite enjoy receiving the hand made gifts. I’ve got quite a few from the kids over the years and they’re safely packed away in boxes

  • Also a good idea to set up a savings account now for Christmas 2017.

  • There is no point in racking up debt for Christmas. Simple and debt free for Christmas is always the best option. Buying throughout the year and saving throughout the year is also helpful.

  • My brother a few year back made a blanket rule for no gifts for the family. I initially thought it was harsh, but now love it. We do give gifts to the children. For my mum and inlaws i do a Santa pic of the kids in a frame and maybe a Christmas ornament. My partner and I wont do gifts for each other. We do buy gifts for our neighbours, teachers and daycare staff. Also we give a gift to charity.

  • To give something you have spent time baking and are proud of is always a good gift!

  • I love making my own gifts, though find that it often costs more than buying in the first place! Still, it adds a special element, and make sure I do it for those I know appreciate it!

  • We’ve been having lucky dips ( Kris Kringle ) with the in laws side as it is much easier to handle especially if you have a large family .

  • I like making different flavoured chocolates, & fudge I like doing it as it gets the family involved making it yourself feels better than buying

  • Go for it !
