  • I always pumped after feeding, just bring along whatever you pump (except when it’s liters of course lol). Don’t worry too much, when you only go for half a day your bubs can drink of you as soon you’re back. Also at 9 months your bubs could have some solids

  • I used to feed my son every 3 hours about 120mls each as he was a good eater. That was the good thing about bottle feeding because everyday was the same routine and I loved it . I had pre-made bottle ready in the fridge as if I was a baby factory worker . I work on routine and it was good for me and the kids .

  • I used to feed first, then express the rest. However much you get from that

  • I think at 9 months, my Lo was having 4x 200 ml per day. He always had expressed milk so I kept it quite controlled. But at 9 months would also depend on how much solids he’s eating.

  • well pump what they would usually drink and maybe more (for insurance!) bub will be eating food so you won’t need as much milk

  • At this age my Lo would have anywhere from 120mls to 250mls depending on her mood. Always best to have more than less

  • Ice cubes is a great idea

  • I agree to try ant home first and I’d always leave more than you think you are going to need to be sure.

  • Freeze your milk in ice cubes, then whoever is caring for your child can defrost more if its needed

  • I agree with trying bub on a bottle at home first. If you express right before he’s due for a feed, it’ll be easiest and your breasts will have produced enough milk ready for him. I think my bubs were having 150-180 mls at that age, depending on time of day.
If you don’t have a store of breast milk, it may be demanding to save for the day all at once. I used to start by expressing 20-30 mls at the end of a feed until I had 100-120 mls. Then I could let hubby give a bottle for a feed while I expressed the same quantity plus another 20-30mls. Eventually I had a stock of 3 full bottles for emergencies, and if one bottle was used, I could replace it without stimulating too much milk production and risking mastitis.

  • This is a really good question but it all depends on the individual child and remember it’s always a great idea to have an excess than to little! Breast milk freezes quite well so you can have a back up supply frozen should they need it!

  • Great, I had had suggested only do a small amount like 60ml

  • They all consume different amounts for example I met a mother who’s son was much younger than my very petite daughter and he was consuming double what she was. A friend did an experiment and expressed and bottle fed her daughter for a day to see how much she took at each feed – a bit of effort but might interest you. I used to always keep the freezer stocked with frozen milk. Better to have too much than too little and it lasts for months.

  • Express as much as you can (you can always freeze any excess for another time). If he hasn’t had a bottle before, I’d suggest making up several bottles of about 50ml each – that way he can have more than one bottle per feed if he wants, but you don’t waste as much if he wants less.

  • I use a calculation when expressing (every Bub is different so it’s just a guideline)….
Not on solids: (weight x 150)/no. Feeds in 24 hours
On solids: (weight x 120)/no. feeds in 24 hours

The 150/120 are mils. I have found that this has been really useful with both my babies. I usually express just a little more than the calc (just to be on the safe side!!)
