Hello!

Is there a set limit and do you stock up on gifts?

  • About $20 per kid usually. If I see things on special I grab them ahead of time too.

  • $10 – $20 limit is a good idea for gifts.

  • We tend to spend around $20 to $30…..but we usually put a lot of thought into the present we are buying. I like to buy presents that are both practical and fun or crafty. ie; tools, a tent, doona cover, beautiful papers etc.
Another way to add some ‘Wow’ is with the wrapping. When the kids were littler we use to get plain paper and cut out the child’s name in holographic contact to stick on the paper, then stick on lots of wrapped lollies or chocolate coins. This makes the present look a million bucks without spending that much.

  • Try to keep it to $10.. sometimes stocked up on sale bargains. But they are at the age now when they spend their own money. Seem to resort to the $1 jewellery / bookmarks etc. on ebay instead of the 10x dearer (same stuff) in the shops here. Sometimes I chip in with $5 towards a book or craft item if there is a party invite… otherwise they just exchange gifts at school. (I find it very hard adjusting to this generation since when I grew up gifts were not given even to 1 or 2 close friends! And these days schools seem to encourage broad friendships across the whole class.. so lots of ‘friends’ and parties…. just can’t spend big on even 4 or 5 invites a year, let alone more)… and friendships should be based on more than gift giving… especially for young children so have tried to play down the presents thing. Just puts other parents in awkward situations too when they get a big gift!

  • With one school age I’m just venturing into this now. I have found myself buying little toys or books when they’ve been on sale for this purpose. For special close friends I’d say probably $20. If it’s been a whole class invite and my child doesn’t know the birthday child I will spend less, but usually because I like to buy books for kids and these often cost less than toys. But for a good friend I will buy something I know that child is interested in.

  • I try to buy something around $20, for special friends between $30 and $40.
I stock up when I see something really nice for a good price, but generally prefer to buy something that suits the person.

  • We generally stay around 20-25 dollars. But I don’t buy anything in advance because the gift depends on the person and on the age.

  • It depends, I try to keep around $20. If I find a really good sale I stock up.

  • Every family is different and families have different monetary values. The key is to give with your heart and give what you can afford. Remember the golden rule ” It’s not what you give but how you give it. ”
And yes if you can afford it at the time, stock up on specials.
    Best Wishes. :-)
