Hello!

Hello Mums. I have a 20mth old girl who loves to put anything that fits up her nose, usually food like peas and corn to sultanas and pasta. I am currently watching her like a hawk and constantly telling her No. but was wondering if there were any other things i could do to discourage this behaviour.

  • I have heard kids pick their noses but not sticking items in them . Have you asked your childhood nurse this question as I used to ask them anything and they always came back with some logical answer.

  • I need to follow this post i need the answer for this.

  • i think it could be a faze

  • Ask her why? I know she’s little but she might have a sore throat or enlarged adenoids, you just never know.

  • this one is a hard one, just reward after small attempts from not doing it

  • Haha no advice, my now 3yo went through this phase…constant supervision worked and explaining we don’t put things up our noses. It should pass quickly :)

  • It sounds like a phase she’s going through.. I don’t think there is anything you can do to make it so completely. Maybe not acknowledging her is the best thing.. But it’s a hard one because you have to stop her in case things gets stuck in there!

  • I don’t think that there is anything you can do to stop it. Maybe give her bigger sized food!

  • I don’t think there is anything you can do, it is something that a lot of children do for some reason. Just keep your eye on her for dangerous objects

  • Just keep an eye on her, maybe avoid those types of food for a week or so. Also be careful of beads and buttons, etc, around the house.

  • Perhaps try to avoid giving her small round objects. Like the saying says you can’t fit a square peg in a round hole-lol!

  • This seems like a tough one :-(I would try to distract her. maybe get a nosal cover for when shes eating. Its the habit u need to break. its like an addiction when they do it too often.

  • try ignoring it. still watch her but don’t acknowledge it

  • Lol that is a hard one. My son found some beads and pushed one up is nose, he screamed and it eventually came out his mouth. Thank goodness it did but it had a sharp bit on the bead so had a little scraping inside so only a little bit of blood. He never pushed anything up again.

  • maybe instead of saying no to her all the time just take the item out of her hand, move her hand away from her nose or try and distract her as she maybe at the point now where she thinks its a game, so everytime your saying no and giving her a reaction she’s going to carry on doing it as she thinks its funny.
