Hello!

I’m just asking for the exact measurements for removing mould from the sealant in the kitchen. I know to use bi carb and vinegar, but how much of each and do I put both on straight away or what? TIA ladies x

  • Vinegar. White vinegar is an all-around cleaning agent and it’s also a fantastic mould remover. To clean the mould off the sealant, pour equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and apply the sealant thoroughly. After that, scrub it gently with an old toothbrush and finally rinse with water.
One other thing which is important that you keep it as dry as possible in general.
There are also special mould cleaners on the market and some may use bleach.

  • I doubt the bicarb and vinegar will work. In the past I have painted over the sealant, or just replaced it with new sealant.

  • I’m sure you can’t remove it with anything because it’s not sitting on the surface, it’s actually ‘in’ the seal

  • Some great ideas, so many knowledgeable mums here, I am going to try them on the shower grout.

  • I found the only way to get rid of it was to remove the sealant and replace with new stuff. The mould is actually ‘in’ the sealant so you can’t just wipe it off

  • Need it replaced lovely, Bunnings is your best start! I have the same problem in my bathroom

  • I needed to know the answer to this questions as well. Looks like I’ll need to re-seal.

  • It is best to have the sealant removed once mold has formed. (Sealant has a limited life span, depending on its geographical position in the house and the amount of exposure it gets.) When replacing the sealant be sure to use, Kitchen and Bathroom grade sealant. It contains an anti fungal agent and prevents mold from ever forming on the sealant. Cleaning sealant with any kind of cleaning product or mixture will only cause mold to continue to spread over time, as the integrity of the sealant has been compromised.

I find the best mold removing recipe is Baking Soda – Detergent Solution:

1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup water, 1 Tbsp dishwashing liquid. Mix all together and apply directly to the mold. Leave for fifteen minutes and wipe off.

  • u will have to reseal but thats cheap if u go to bunnings

  • I use a paste of half and half bicarb and vinegar and use an old tooth-brush to scrub it with. If that doesn’t work, I use cheap household bleach, and that usually does the trick.

  • and if you do reseal make sures its compelty clean and dry

  • unfortunately ours is under the seal so we need to have it redone

  • under the seal is the problem!

  • It never worked for us, we had to re-seal

  • I need to do this as well, I’ve tried to use exit mould but it doesn’t work!
