Hello!

Cheeky thing looks me square in the eyes to see how I’ll react as she throws it. I either walk away or take the food away from her. Maybe there’s a better way?

  • I ignore it and take the food bowl away without further words or eye contact

  • My daughter was a terrible food thrower. I think in the end she just grew out of it.. we also use to take the food away as soon as she done it. Rather then pick it up and give it back to her for a chance to do it again. She soon learnt to hold onto it if she was hungry. Otherwise I took throwing it as a sign of being full

  • Ignore it – mine gave it up as soon as they realised it wasn’t creating the reaction they expected.

  • Some start at a younger age than that. Others start when they are self feeding. We disovered that if we didn’t look at him at all he lost interest and stopped doing that. We asked others who visited to do that too as he started doing it again if anybody visited. He soon learnt that he wasn’t getting any attention at all.

  • I would suggest saying something like “Ok u must be finished eating now as you are throwing your food. We don’t throw food” and take the food away. Just do it calmly and don’t raise your voice in annoyance. Then take bubs out of the high chair and try again later in an hour or so. Even at a young age they get a feel for consequences and they understand what you are saying.
