Hello!

Hi, I don’t know if anyone has the same problem but I’m in desperate need for tips and tricks! My partners socks are always as hard as cardboard before and after washes, and I’m at a loss as to what to try. I’ve tried soaking them in fabric softener, hand washing, scrubbing, but nothing seems to work so any tips im willing to try! Thanks in advance :)

  • Epsom salts in the wash…

  • Try white vinegar it softens towels really well.

  • vinegar will make them softer!

  • Bath salts added to some water and soak socks overnight…. wash as normal the next day. And I think it helps if you dry them in the drier.

  • Once my husbands socks start to go like this, we bin them and buy fresh ones

  • Epsom salts works a treat brings them back to near new

  • I haven’t had that happen to me, maybe white vinegar might fluff it up I know with my towels if I put vinegar in the wash its nice and fluffy when they come out

  • Buy a box of Fauldings EPSOM SALTS (magnesium Sulfate) and add to the final rinse. This is perfect for softening cloths, sheets and jumpers and SOCK’s!

  • Perhaps try soaking them in napisan.

You might find it is what the socks are made from…perhaps switch to wool or bamboo

  • I have come across this problem but can’t remember if it was the washing machine I was using at the time (old front loader) or just a certain brand of socks. If they are the same type of socks try buying a different type and see if you have the same result.

  • you could have hard water?

  • I find that soaking them in warm water and baking soda softens them up before I put them in the wash and I use fabric softener too. My partner’s socks are ALWAYS like that. It’s disgusting – they look like there are still feet in them haha.

  • The same thing happens to my partners work socks, though his normal ones he wears on the weekend are fine. I just think it has something to do with him sweating in his work boots, though I am interested if you find a solution.

  • Did you find a solution to hard socks? Anything work?.

  • I would start fresh, buy new socks, and then forget the softener – it ruins the fibres in the clothes and damages your machine. You can use vinegar instead ansd use a natural washing powder like Eco store, Aware etc, they don’t leave residue in you clothes like the other products do . Oh and before you start, give your machine a good clean (google cleaning your machine)
