Hello!

My 15 month old has self weaned her dummy after being sick. Now I’m stuck with how to get her self settling and going to sleep. She now cries herself to sleep, doesn’t matter if I’m holding her, patting her in her cot or leaving her alone in her cot. She gets so worked up and it’s horrible for everyone. She is waking at least twice during the night as well. She has no interest in using her bunny or comforter she’s had since very young for comfort either. I would like to know any ideas or strategies that will help bed time to be a calm enjoyable time like before and to help her self settle during the night. Do you have any ideas to calm my 15 mth old through bedtime?

  • sounds like hshe has got herself in to a routine .

  • pillow pets now have a light in them , could work

  • There are night lights that change colour and put out aroamatic smells.. You could try this with lavender or another calming scent

  • How is she going now?

  • i hope you found something that works

  • Hope some of the advice has helped.

  • Hopefully she got past crying herself to sleep

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I hope it gets easier soon

  • Have any suggestions below helped?

  • There is a calming bedtime spray you can get that contains lavender, it comes out in a really fine mist-it helps to relax them-even good for adults.

  • I wish mine self weaned… I want to get rid of them as they are 20 months old now and really don’t need them

  • try to make the bedtime routine fun! Book time. Relaxing music. night light. stickers on wall. Mobile above cot. Stuff to encourage dream time.

  • I would try reading a book to her at bed time and the dimming the lights (bed time lamp) with relaxation music softly playing. Siting beside her cot / bed and reassuring her everything is ok mim is here. I wouldn’t pat her as then you have to break thy habit. As she gets better start sitting closer to the door.

Another idea which a lot of people won’t agree with is putting a tv and DVD player in her room. Letting her fall asleep while watching tv

  • Lucky you got a ‘self weaner’ – we had to give our dummy to the babies at the hospital. After taht we cuddled to sleep & still lay down wiht her most nights
