Hello!

I need ideas on making a quick birthday present for someone young on a low budget. Any tips or ideas?

  • Homemade body scrub in a jar, or baking is always lovely to get or a meal made.

  • Depends on what age and what gender. When it’s a young child I think homemade play dough is nice together with some cookie cutters for example. I agree with some ingredients, cookie cutters, roller apron etc to start baking; I’ve given that several times and always was a hit. When you have a bit more time and are into sewing/knitting/crochet you could make a pillow for the bedroom or a handmade doll/soft toy or a dress up outfit.

  • If you know they have a garden get them a few seeds and stuff

  • I think baking cookies or muffins as a snack would be great

  • Maybe something baked because everyone likes cake don’t they?

  • cookies or chocolates or something to put hair clips on if a girl- like a canvas with ribbon.

  • Terrariums are very popular at the moment. You can use any type of glass container, fill with gravel at the bottom, then soil, add succulents from your garden, and top the soil with coloured stones. Very pretty, and you can make lots for little cost.

  • I love the crayons idea! You can make rainbow crayons and make cute shapes using a silicon mould

  • It depends on how young. With Christmas approaching you could do a bauble with their name. I recently painted the Disney princesses on a personalized wall plaque for a child who has everything.

  • I bought my grandson a cheap little cooking set and cook book, so we can get in the kitchen together and start creating

  • Biscuits are always a plus on a gift list. For a boy I would purchase a small plastic truck and make small cookies to place around them as a little track. For a girl little dolls on top of a fairy cake especially with sparkles.

  • That’s a really hard question to answer when I know nothing of the recipient. I would love to know what you decided on…..

  • Home made toffee is a lovely treat and you have the ability to cut down on the sugar and even add in dried or glaced fruits to make it colourful, wrap in a clear box with ribbon and a specialised I made it for you card

  • I think if you can hand make a card that is already a good start as I used to do this but later on I found buying the separate items to make them costs more than buying a card. It also depends on their age. If you can knit /crotchet etc.. then you can make scarfs , beanies, clothes , socks etc.. . My daughter made a scrapbook a few times and just stick photos that made great memories . Weigh up the costs as sometimes it is cheaper to buy when shops have sales all the time now .

  • I love creating new crayons by melting broken crayons into silicon molds.
