Hello!

We live out west (it’s really hot and dry or freezing cold and windy) so my children always have really badly cracked lips. Any tips from other mums as I can’t seem to get them to use lip balms during the day when they’re are school.

  • Make sure they have a comfortable lip balm to use at home, particularly before bed. I encouraged my son to carry a lip balm in his pocket just in case he needed it, and he did because some of his friends also used a lip balm.

  • Paw Paw lotion can be great for this.

  • Mix honey with Vaseline and add them to a small container for kids to take to school. It worked with mine.

  • Vaseline is great for cracked lips but is not very tasty!
Maybe after a few tries of Vaseline the lip balm will be more than welcome.

  • Some people love lucas paw paw ointment, I prefer something the size of a chapstick. There are very cool chapsticks in different themes like Coca Cola and this might encourage them to use them. Drinking water and staying hydrated also help keep the lips supple. My lips have dried out this winter and I’ve been exfoliating them but wouldn’t recommend that for the kids

  • as you say where you live is hot and dry,and licking lips to cool them is very drying. could you talk to teachers and ask them to remind them to put on lip balm. Vaseline also stays on longer and creates a barrier and does not come off as easily as lip balm

  • I would use bedpanthem (nappy cream) soft, healing and will work well.

  • Nutri rich oil is great on lips and pleasant smelling. Problems with other lip balms I have found is that they dry the lips. Best to use natural products. Nutri rich oil is made from apricots oil and carrot oil. http://www.nutrimetics.com.au/tracybaker

  • yeah but he might not like that paw paw ointment. try a coca cola flavoured lip smaker

  • I love paw paw ointment to.

  • keep on them about the lip balm, make sure it’s a flavour that they pick and make sure they drink plenty of water

  • I love paw paw ointment it’s great and last ages on the skin

  • Coconut oil works really well for my chapped lips.

  • Burts Bees Lip Balm, works a treat.

  • are the boys or girls , if either try finding something thats ‘cool’ like a themed chap stick, you could even use contact to cover the tube , might encourage them to use at school if they are a little embarrassed .
