Hello!

What ideas can you give me to help save for a holiday? We only have my husbands income coming in and we have a mortgage, bills, food etc.

  • Spare change goes a long way. See if there are little things you can cut back on without sacrificing to much. If your husband grabs a takeaway coffee before work he can get a decent one for a $1 at a servo and put the other $5 away for your holiday, that adds up to $25 a week. Just look for little things like that, they add up quick.

  • 1. Sell anything you don’t need
    2. Make it an expense, just like the bills, put aside some money and commit to it.
    3. Find holiday destinations close to you and book it during the off peak to reduce overall costs of the holiday. Instead of getting a hotel/resort maybe look at holiday homes that way you will probably have a full kitchen to make your own meals too.

  • Putting a little aside each week, or perhaps selling items you have a home and no longer need.

  • Set up a Christmas club account – they really work!

  • get a direct debit set up and you won’t eve realise how quickly it builds up.

  • Love the idea of a money jar!

  • A small amount of money put aside each week or fortnight for savings can help and a money jar is also a very good idea. The coins add up over time.

  • Hubby and I put all our coins into collection jars. The goldies and 50c in one jar and all the silvers in another jar. You will be surprised how quickly the jars fill and how much money is in each one, particularly the goldies jar

  • It’s very hard to save on one income, putting a small amount each pay aside and save money on food on sale or specials,no take-away or coffee’s,cut back on the moblie phone helps.Only buy what you need.Best of luck!

  • We are a single income family of 4 kids. We try and go to the beach every year before christmas. We just add it in as a part of our budget and put the money aside.

  • Is it possible to have a garage sale, you could hold one each month.
