Hello!

My bub hasn’t done a poo in 4 days. He’s breastfeeding, and 20 weeks old. Should I be worried?

  • I went once to the doctor with my boy who was fully breastfed and didn’t have a poo in 12 days; he was not constipated !
Best indicator is; how soft is the belly, does your child appear to have cramps / cries when passing poo, consistency of the poo, is your child growing and happy ?
There’s no ‘normal’ when it comes to how often babies poo – breastfed babies will sometimes go several days, or even a week without having a poo (this is more common in babies aged 6 weeks or older). You’ll quickly get used to your baby’s bowel movements, so you’ll be able to tell what’s normal for them.

  • Dont be worried as long as your bubs is eating well :)

  • I’m pretty certain it’s fine, yet i did notice when i started taking a stronger mini pill as the lower dose didn’t agree with me that my baby got constipated as well lol poor little fella i had to stop taking it all together.

  • no, mine was the same, It will come soon enough lol

  • I would be. My bubs were both breastfed and pooed at least once a day. Having said that, I have a friend whose bub only pooped once or twice a week and the Dr assured her all was fine. As long as they don’t appear to be sick or in discomfort. Keep an eye on it tho

  • It is quite normal, you can talk to your child health nurae or gp if concerned. There are a few things you can try…baby biotics are apparently really good, a shop in North Lakes QLD sells them, they are called Embrace Life….I haven’t had a problem with my 2 month old girl but a lot of my friends have and they swear by them…basically probiotics for babies :)

  • that’s very comforting. thank you so much

  • It should be okay, nothing to worry.

  • that’s very helpful. thank you so much

  • My maternal child health nurse told me that breastfed babies can go up to two weeks without doing a poo ! She said that it often means that the mothers milk is very nutritious and there’s no waste to get out. I took a lot of comfort from her telling me that as my little man would go up to 6-7 days without a poo. Hope this helps you x
