  • When you start brushing your infant’s teeth with fluoride toothpaste, you’ll want to guard against dental fluorosis. The condition occurs when a young child ingests too much fluoride before their adult teeth erupt. This, in turn, causes white or brown discoloration or spots on permanent teeth enamel.
Most kids get the right amount of fluoride through a combination of fluoridated toothpaste and fluoridated water or supplements. Too much fluoride before 8 years of age, a time when teeth are developing, can cause enamel fluorosis, a discoloration or mottling of the permanent teeth.

  • I wasn’t sure whether there was much difference so I used the kid’s toothpaste for my daughter just to be on the safe side.

  • Size for a starter. Littlies need the tiny brushes to fit in their mouths. Then there’s the firmness. So yeah, I would think age appropriate toothbrushes are needed

  • Yes. There can be to much fluride in adult toothpaste for young kids and the mint tends to actually burn there sensitive mouths aswell

  • i just use what is recommended for their age group because then it is not too strong because they will end up eating a little when they are learning

  • For under 6 it is good because its about the strength and taste for them but as they get older you can use adult toothpaste but just smaller amounts especially as kids these days are eating more sugar and things.

  • Great question I always buy the age one that they specify but are we all just wasting our money??

  • Yes definitely, you want to be sure the toothpaste is designed for their specific age to ensure it is not too strong for their baby teeth!

  • I think their mouths are too sensitive for adult strength toothpaste.

  • if you don’t they could be too strong for your kids and turn them off wanting to brush

  • Agreeing with a few comments here, I dont think little kid should have adult toothpaste

  • Did you find out whether this is the case?

  • which toothpaste did you use?

  • I think it is important because I believe there are different levels of flouride in them

  • Which toothpaste did you end up using?
