Hello!

Hi MOM, I have a little boy who is turning 2 in April, he is an only child. He is a really easy little boy, has always slept through, nothing really stresses him out and no tantrums yet (touch wood). However he hasn’t started talking yet. He babbles a bit to me and himself, but doesn’t say many understandable words at all. He understands everything and will do what I ask etc but I’m not sure if I should be worried that he isn’t talking yet or maybe he is one of those kids who will just come out with a sentence in a few months time? Is my 2 year olds speech normal? I’m interested to know how others have gone.

  • If you are worried take him to a speech pathologist, the can either assist his speech or put your mind at ease. All of mine were talks at different ages.

  • All children are different. But if you are really concerned i would get him checked out.

  • Great! Really very interesting comments on this!

  • Not sure really all my 3 sons where talking well and master 23 months old is putting words together but all kids are different don’t stress it will come.

  • You have to sit with him a repeat words over and over again.

  • Honestly please don’t worry. My son turned two in January snd has only just started speaking but not putting sentences together. They all start in their own time

  • dont worry about a thing..

  • I have plenty of friends with 2 yo who are still babbling… DOn’t worry!

  • How is he going with his speech now?

  • How is he now? I would suggest having him around other small children – day care/occasional care. I’m sure it will pick up once he goes to kinder.

  • I would hope he is speaking better now. If he’s still not starting, I would speak to a speech therapist .

  • I hope all goes well for you and his speech is progressing x

  • Technically it would be considered behind in speech but my son is very similar and so are the vast majority of boys I know. You could get him checked if you’re worried.

  • If you’re really worried get him checked but that sounds very similar to my son, hes 2.5 years old now and has had a word explosion, is saying things much more clearly, and starting to string sentences together. I was starting to get a little worried because he has been a bit slower with talking than my daughter was but hes progressing slowly and steadily.

  • Take him to the park where he can meet other children and talk to them You too can ask him a question which requires an answer
