Hello!

I would like some other opinions on if smoked salmon is OK to eat during pregnancy, I have heard conflicting things so would like some other opinions! Has anyone eaten smoked salmon whilst pregnant? Is smoked salmon OK to eat during pregnancy? Thanks MoM!

  • I have not heard anything to suggest this would be dangerous.


  • I avoided all seafood and all soft cheeses, just to be safe. I don’t like seafood anyway


  • I ate some cooked in a recipe that was on this site. I looked into it and it is Ok to eat in UK but NOT recommended in Australia. I would not eat it raw but like some things that are on the ‘do not eat list’ I have eaten it if it’s cooked and there’s steam coming off it


  • The AMA says no. I listened to all the advice for my first but at ate smoked salmon and leftovers for my second. Do what your comfortable with. You won’t enjoy it if you are constantly worried about whether you have eaten something that you think may have a risk to bub.

  • Smoked salmon is not ok unless it is cooked. Eg smoked salmon on a sandwich is not good but cooked in an omelette is fine.

  • Many indigenous people around the world preserve their fish & meats by smoking for generations. They did not & still do not have refrigeration . Yet to see any with two heads. I say go for it , but all things in moderation.


  • I would only be cautious if my partner was allergic. Make sure it’s very fresh and cooked properly. I ate most things in my pregnancies.


  • I wouldn’t take the chance of it containing listeria. Imagine how much you will enjoy it when your baby arrives safe & sound. Uncooked meats & soft cheeses are best avoided just in case in my opinion.


  • I actually ate everything I want during my pregnancy. Even coffee. But i only take the minimum amount. i or 2 slices of smoked salmon is perfectly fine!


  • I wouldn’t better to keep everything as simple and natural as possible, but ask your doctor or nurse just to be sure, if you already ate it don’t worry babies can put up with a lot!


  • I think eat what u want 2 eat so long as it’s cooked I ate everything from ham cheese fish and salami eggs and my little girl is fine and healthy no allergies or anything, I think so long as everything is cooked properly there shouldn’t b a problem look bk when out perents, perents had kids there where no guide lines and rules on what to eat and what not to eat and they are perfectly fine. Enjoy Ur preganacy eat what u want embrace it xoxo
