Hello!

I breast feed my 4 mth old, but she throws it all up. Any suggestions for helping her to keep it down?

  • my little man has reflux and they told me to try and keep him still after a feed and to change side very carefully without moving him around too much, he takes 0.3ml of zantac that was prescribed by our paed, it doesn’t stop the throwing up but it helps with the acidity and the hurting throat. We also top up when necessary with some thickened formula if little man is still hungry or has been a very hungry day

  • I would talk to the Dr. and see if it is reflux.

  • Has she been checked for reflux?

  • could she be intolerant to breastmilk? rare but i can happen.

  • there are some good comments here

  • I’d be looking for food intolerance. Drs are often not great at helping with identifying these so I suggest taking her to a naturopath (they can so tests to identify intollerances) and also taking bub to see an osteopath as they can help with some physical/structural things like diaphragm issues which may be causing problems. Good luck!! :-)

  • maybe go and see a doctor they will be able to help

  • I would discuss this with you’d dr to see if bub has an intolerance

  • Maybe she is lactose intolerant, perhaps seek some medical advice, just incase :)
But if she seems content the rest of the time and isn’t hungry crying always, i wouldn’t be too concerned, as she would seem satisfied :)

  • Try a thickener during your feeds out of a syringe mixed with a little bit of breast milk.

  • A few things. If your breasts are really full, express some first so she doesn’t gulp in too much at once. Then you can sit her up on your knee in front of your breast. She may have reflux so your milk isnt thick enough to keep it down. Or she could be lactose or dairy in tolerant. If it is reflux you might have to use milanta or change to formula that is thicker.

  • Smaller feeds and sit her up slowly.

  • My 6 month old daughter vomits a lot too. I think sometimes they gulp it down a little to quick and have quite sensitive stomachs. We just make sure not to play too soon after a bottle ;)

  • It could be reflux. does she have any discomfort with the spitting up? If she’s not losing weight and gaining well doctors are reluctant to give medication but their are elimination diets you can try and see if they trigger it off.

  • SOunds like reflux. CHange your diet maybe? cut down on brassica family veggies like broccoli, bokchoy..
