Hello!

I wear glasses (spectacles) and when I clean them I’ve always used the little spray bottle of “Lens Cleaner” supplied by the optometrist. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed that my eyes water and sting a bit after I put my glasses on following cleaning them. I’ve tried another brand of spray lens cleaner, and also some wipes, but I have the same problem with eye irritation. I know that the lens cleaners have Ethylene glycol monobutyl and other chemicals in them, and I’m not sure why all of a sudden my eyes seem to be irritated, when I’ve used lens cleaner for years. Do any of the mums out there have a recommendation for a non-chemical solution (or a home-made one) that I can use to clean my glasses?

  • I never use any cleaner to clean mg glasses. I have to wear glasses everyday for everything. I only ever breathe onto each lens and then clean with a tissue – don’t use aloe Vera or other added scent ones as they will jusf smudge. My glasses do not seem to scratch from this method and I get plenty of wear from them before I replace.

  • I always use the nice and hot dish water before I do the dishes, it works perfect

  • I would bee interested in the answers too. At the moment I just rinse mine under water and dry with a soft cloth.

  • I would tell this to the optometrist and make sure you have a thorough eye test. I sometimes use plain water on soft tissue and it seems fine to me .

  • Norwex sell an optic scarf which is great for this.

  • I would first try a little dishwashing liquid and warm water, and if that doesn’t clean them well enough, then a little diluted vinegar.

  • Vinegar and water works really well

  • Try 2 drops of vinegar mixed with 8 drops of water in a washed out spray bottle.

  • just wash them or a little vinegar in water and spray that on

  • Like others I use a tiny drop of detergent on the lenses and gently rub under running warm water, or sometimes just water. I don’t like the bought products either, they have a strong smell so no wonder they affect our eyes.

  • water is ok ? you could have a try.

  • Vinegar, it works amazingly to clean glass!

  • I just use a little drop of dishwashing liquid and find that works well for me.

  • Try using diluted vinegar in water it’s helped me.

  • Try using dilute vinegar.. Although most of the time I just use the cloth that gets supplied with the glasses and wipe very well..
