  • If you can afford to get containers to put things into then I think they’re quite helpful with organisation. You can then sort things and start to go through everything and throw away boxes and the the like to gain more space and ensure things look neat and tidy.

  • Having a place where everything belongs and making people return things to those places makes a huge difference.

  • I wish I had the answer, maybe start with watching Marie Kondo…and go from there! I spend more time looking for things than anything else. I clean with a process though; all items off floors and benches, dust and webs, windows and wipe surfaces, vacuum and then mop.

  • Loved the answers our wonderful moms supplied …my problem is spending tooo much time on here lol. sorry mom.

  • For me organization is a means to efficiency (for doing chores like cooking or getting dressed or packing bag for a gym visit) rather than whether the house looks nice or is clutter free. When things are arranged so that they create the least work then I consider them organized. A few things that have helped most are in the kitchen making sure drawers, cupboard and sink line up with my cooking space so that I can be efficient, and maybe in the wardrobe, keeping clothes arranged so can find things more easily.

  • Yes like previous poster I have cleaning stuff in each area. I clean the bathroom and mop the bedroom floors when my youngest (she’s 5yrs old) is in bath, wipe the kitchen cupboards down when I’m cooking and doing the dishes, my kids tidy the toys before dinner, my husbands vacuums in the evening, after which I mop the downstairs floors in the night or early morning, I pretty much wash daily and make sure I work the clean wash away (ironing, folding and putting it away) before I put on the next load, toilets I do most of the time in the night/ early morning, idem for the lunches.

  • Find what stumps you and make it easier. E.g With cleaning I was struggling to get all the stuff organised to do the bathroom. So I now have bathroom cleaning stuff in the bathroom and spare gloves there. I have doubles of stuff in the kitchen but it’s easier to have doubles in the bathroom to get straight into it.
I watched a few ‘clean your toilet in 2 min’ videos and it helped me feel I have the skills to do it quickly (and now I don’t mind that job!)
I try have set things that happen. Eg. every Saturday I change Hand towels and tea towels. Then it’s just something that happens rather than having to think when I’ve done something last.
I agree with others – have less stuff and have a spot for everything. May take a few months to really make spots or clear up enough to make daily living easier.

  • Try to do it after the kids go to sleep to save doin it 150000 times

  • That “just another mummy” blog looks amazing. Thanks for the tip!

  • Take your time and do one section/room at a time, otherwise it will be so overwhelming you won’t get anywhere. First, declutter, and be brutal, if you have no use for it, either throw it out, donate to charity or try to sell. Once all the clutter is out of the way you can start the sorting process – good storage is a must so if you don’t have enough built in cupboards/drawers/etc, buy plastic boxes to keep everything organised and out of sight, and label them clearly with what is inside. The clearer your rooms look, the better you will feel.

  • I least have A to do list of everything I need to do. One on my phone to add to when I’m on the go and a paper one on the fridge so it’s always visible. Extra bonus of getting to tick things off is really satisfying

  • Start small indeed. One room at the time. If you have Netflix, watch “Marie Kondo’s series” for inspiration.

  • Do one room at a time, create boxes and label KEEP, THROW AWAY and SELL. Best to do each room just before your garbage and/or kerb side pick up. Label EVERYTHING, for example, I have a box of clothes that my 5 year old has grown out of but are too big for my 1 year old labeled Clothes Sizes 2 – 4. Just go slow as to not overwhelm yourself and invest in a label maker.

  • Break it all down into bite sized chunks.
Make up a list of jobs for each room then work your way down, concentrating on one small step at a time.
You could make yourself up a planner with all of the ideas, jobs, things needed, purchases etc. to keep you on track.
There are loads of online organisational blogs and websites to browse too.
Have fun and don’t overwhelm yourself :)
