  • Hi , everyone. I’m too looking for a recipe for a rainbow cake. I have never attempted it, would like any hints, tips thanks :)

  • Rainbow cakes are not hard, they do take more time cooking all the different coloured layers. The end effect is so worth it.

  • I have wanted to try & make a rainbow cake for many months now but have been to worried it would be to time consuming.
After reading some of these comments I am now quite keen to give it a try!

  • I have made them before. they are so cool for kids cakes. i usually use a orange cake mix divide it up into different bowls and mix through colours and cook as normal.

  • I made a layered rainbow cake for my sons 1st birthday it was just the number one, I made up 5 different layers so 5 cakes, in different colours. I joined them together with buttercream icing then buttercream iced the whole lot and wrote on it! Was relish and turned out perfect!

  • How did you go with the cake?

  • Good fun to make and they look good too; just go easy on the food colouring!

  • Yep, easy. Just don’t mix it too much as you don’t want the colours to run into each other.

  • all these answers are helpful. i just have fun getting them out when they are stuck in the tin

  • I’ve made a green crocodile cake and it was diddly but if you have the patience go for it

  • I have made a rainbow cake. My main advice is to make sure you level off all the layers before putting the cake together. I didn’t do this and my cake was tilting all over the place and I was trying to even it out with loads of icing between the layers – not an ideal situation.

  • I’ve been wanting to give it a try

  • my friend makes a great one, they are easy and the ones online work fine

  • I have made rainbow cake from a basic plain cake recipe divided into 3 batches and coloured 2. Then layer 1 colour at the time , once in tin swirl a long skewer through cake . Bake and enjoy.

  • This is the finished product. It was a huge success
