Hello!

My 2 year old son has been snoring very loudly and waking up distraught screaming in the middle of the night. Our doctor said he has naturally enlarged tonsils and anenoids and has referred us to the hospital sleep clinic. Has anyone been through this with their children and can provide some advice on what to expect. Thank you

  • This is an ENT issue. It sounds like possible sleep aponea, which can be fixed by removing them.

  • Like mom94125 said, they just hook him up to lots of different bits and bobs. It can be difficult to get them to go to sleep initially because it is a strange room, lots of different equipment on them. It will be great to find out the results though so you can make some plans about what needs to be done if anything about his sleep.

  • yeah he just gets monitored while he has a sleep and will be hooked up to devices. nothing painfull or invasive. then the doc will analyse the results

  • hope fully it all goes good for you guys. tough it out.

  • Sorry I can’t help with what the clinic would be like but I can sympathise with what you are all going through. Our son had his tonsils and adenoids removed and grommets put in before he turned four. There was no sleep clinic anywhere near us so we were referred directly to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. Along with snoring and restless sleep, he would vomit daily when he tried to eat because his airway would get blocked. Then he’d sit right back down and try eating again. An overnight stay in hospital (because we lived so far away), and no problems since they were removed.

  • Sounds to me more like he should be having medical attention. If his tonsils and adenoids are enlarged and affecting his sleep, surely he needs them removed?

  • I have t had this happen but a good friend of mine had to go to sleep school and said it was the best thing they ever did! Good luck xx
