Definitely seek advise from a doctor.

I dont think you have to completely remove the nail, just keep it trimmed

I had ingrown toenails in both my big toes, i left them for over a year and tried to manage them myself. Eventually i went to the podiatrist and was so glad i did as the nail on on of them had started to attach itself to the bone, so i could of lost my toe if i hadn’t gone to the podiatrist. So i highly suggest that he goes to the podiatrist.

I’d check with your GP – might need to be referred to a podiatrist.

I would see a podiatrist as if it does need to be treated, they can cut and manage it correctly.
