Hello!

I have found it really difficult to settle back in to the day-to-day routine after returning from holidays. How do other people cope with the return to reality?

  • Don’t we all wish holidays could just last forever?!
For me I usually nominate to go back to work at the end of the week so I don’t have to cope with a full week back and that helps me get back into things slowly.
Say you start back at work on a Thursday that way you only have to do two days before it’s the weekend.

  • You wouldn’t be the only one I’m sure. Nearly everyone I know struggles to return to work after holidays

  • Ugh, tell me about it. Returning to work after holidays sucks! You just have to keep plodding along and you’ll soon get back into the swing of things

  • It is so hard to get back into routine after having a holiday, especially going back to work! That’s life thou! Good thing is we all have time off and enjoy our-selves!

  • I find the most frustrating thing is when the house is clean when you leave, but while you are away plenty of dust, dirt etc. has found its way in and is worse than it was before you cleaned it last time.
If you had a bad dust storm while you were away and the farmers lost their topsoil you may discover like we did once that our cement driveway was in fact a different colour. Yes, ours was brown instead of dark grey. We had to sweep the bulk off before we hosed the remainder onto the lawn. We didn’t want it all to go down our drain hole and silt it up. We had to do the same before we washed our vinyl floors and bathroom tiles. Some of our windows were louvres and they don’t close tightly at all. We later discovered that we had inherited 3 corner jacks and bindii weeds / seeds so we couldn’t walk barefoot or with open shoes for awhile. We needed another holiday by the time things got back to normal on that occasion. A friend of ours went away and there was a power failure. Their safety switch was faulty and the power didn’t go back on. They came home to a large freezer full of “gone off” food and water etc. all over their floor. They tried every method that was suggested to them but couldn’t get the smell out of the freezer or the stains off the floor. They even tried different preparations on different shelves in the freezer and also different ones on their floor. Luckily their insurance covered the cost of a new freezer and floor covering, and some of the food lost. Fortunately they came home on a week day so they were able to contact the insurance company as soon as they realised. They live in a country town which luckily has qualified people who could do an assessment on the insurance company’s behalf.

  • Same! It’s the hardest thing ever to return to work after an enjoyable time off. You’ll soon settle in

  • Good reading the comments there really interesting!

  • whats a holiday! no problems normally

  • I’m the same. I hate going away, but when I get there, I hate coming home. It’s a transition, time should see you through it ok.

  • I hear you! it can be difficult settling back into a normal routine!

  • I try to give myself a day or two at home between travel and going back to work/school etc – I find you have to start getting back into routine with the kids then anyway, and it’s a bit of a “soft landing”.

  • Once I start unpacking and turn that washing machine on, it’s like I’ve never been away.

  • A good alarm clock..lol….and lists lots of lists and you will get there

  • I think for everyone it takes time to adjust

  • it takes time to readjust I believe, you relax and then need to work yourself back into a routine
