  • You dont have to buy anything to enter competitions in SA, I believe. You can send in a hand drawn copy of the product wrapper. That was years ago though. Not sure on current rules.

  • You may need to read the terms and conditions of each competition, because yes, I know the laws can be different from state to state.

  • I have noticed some comps specify ‘not in SA ACT or NT’ I’m unsure why they have these though

  • I think reading the terms and conditions of each individual competition is the way to go because they can be so different.

  • It all comes down to the gaming commission and the terms and conditions for each state. Each state has different regulations in terms of prize values and permits etc.

  • As an entrant, read the terms and conditions for each – there can be different requirements from state to state. I think it’s to do ith different laws coveringht “gambling”.

  • thanks gals!

  • i cant offer any more advice than already given which is check directly with the association for rules.

  • Like others have said, it’s best to read the T&C’s on every comp as they will all be different. I’m pretty sure that SA entrants sometimes get to win more prizes that other states (not sure why but good for you) but other than that I’m not really sure about the differences.

  • By the way good luck!

  • thanks ladies – am about to read the link sent

  • I agree with others read terms and conditions and google info too.

  • It should be explained in the terms and conditions of the competitions you enter

  • You definitely need to read the terms and conditions carefully. Some you get part way through a survey attached then discover there is another set of terms and conditions. Some send texts to your mobile phone that you pay for. It will chew up your credit very quickly if you have a prepaid one. As soon as I spot one of them I don’t go any further. Readers Digest were using them at one stage. I cancelled my magazine subscription after that happened. I have had some promotion emails that I don’t know the origin of where they got my details from, also calls on my mobile as in Most but not all competitions you have to give your phone number in case you win a prize. I have actually had prizes posted to me without me being advised. Some also use them to verify details such as your address to use to post or courier your prize. You should not normally have to pay postage, and certainly not customs duty. If they pull the customs stunt it is more than likely a scam. If you receive one or an email you are certain is a scam/fraud let the Police know. They like to trace and shut them down. They can get a warrant for a search of a person’s property to collect proof including confiscating their computer.

  • Just make sure you read the Ts&Cs (boring I know)!
