Hello!

“I have something on my mind, need advice. My son was shown a war video “19” today at preschool (he is 3). I was not told about this until after the fact when I picked him up. He has asked lots of questions about shooting, fighting, blood, soldiers hurting kids and mummy’s and daddy’s etc. I have not seen the video he watched so am unsure of content (Internet issues so I can’t download) I feel like I should have been asked first? That he is too young to understand war and watching such content as I wouldn’t allow it at home….. Do I have a right to talk to school teachers??” Should I have been told first?

  • Of course you have that right ! Yes they should have asked/informed you about their intentions. I would ask if they can send you the link so you can watch it yourself and support your child.

  • you absolutely have a right to talk to the teachers! 3 year olds should be watching G-rated things – and war related shows are NOT G-rated

  • Good grief. Yes, you should have been ASKED first!

  • 3 is way way to young to be shown that type of video. You have every right to be annoyed and I would be taking it up with staff.

  • Yes, you have the right to talk to the teacher about it and yes you sure should have been asked first. What were those teachers thinking, showing a DVD about war to 3 year olds. I’m horrified :0

  • Oh god that is terrible! I would most deffinately be speaking to the teachers. There should have been some note sent home! What was it rated!?

  • Absolutely! This unacceptable. Permission; in the form of a signed consent form is required for any movie or footage above a G rating. I suggest you make the school aware of their obligations! They also need to explain in a form the reason for watching a movie or footage; the educational purpose. Sorry; this is horrible for you and your little person.

  • Absolutely by all means you should have known and been informed early. Gosh even schools these days need to get parents consent to talk about xmas LOL.

  • That is a strange, I have never heard of kids being shown a video about war at 3 before normally they are watching kids shows. I would be speaking to them.

  • I think you should have been asked to sign a consent form allowing your child to watch graphic material.

  • Wow that is concerning hope u got it sorted

  • I am quite shocked that they would show this material to such young children. Totally baffled as to why they would show this at a preschool so I’d be talking to the teachers for sure!

  • Really strange to be showing young kids that.

  • Did you end up talking to the teachers?

  • Absolutely, that is simply ridiculous to be showing at that age.
