my son was three when we decided it was time to get rid of them. Before that he loved them for comfort and I saw nothing wrong with it. We saw a dentist who said he had a small overbite due to the dummy so that night we got rid of them cold turkey as I didn’t want him to have to have a long-drawn out process. He was only unsettled for about half an hour that night, occasionally asked for them over the next few days but handled it very well. Cold turkey worked well for us but it doesn’t work for everyone
My daughter in law handled it so well. She told her son a number of times before his second birthday that the dummy will go away when he is 2 years old and when he turned two that is what happened. They went to the shop beforehand and he chose a fluffy friend to replace his dummy for sleep time. It worked a treat. All the best
