  • For sleeping definitely portacot! The fold up small and light for travel and easy to set up.
Food ideas- I usually will make and freeze meals flat in a ziplock bag so they quickly defrost when i need them and I can just heat up in a saucepan on a camp stove.
I’ve got a 1 year old and an almost 3 year old and I just make sure to always have plenty of snacks. Fruit, biscuits, chips etc

  • Pack for hot and cold weather as you’ll need extra layer at night. We used a big tent that had a seperate compartment to keep our food in. Good luck and have fun :)

  • If you have a large tent a portacot is definitely a must. I also like using the body suit sleeping bags as these are warmer if temps drop at night and you don’t have to worry about them being uncovered. For food tinned spag is great. It’s easy and can be eaten cold if necessary. For bathing get one of those rubber buckets with handles that people use for gardening they are the perfect size to bath a toddler in lovely warm water after boiling the kettle a few times. It’s a huge novelty that both my kids have loved and it helps soothe them and warm them for bed.

  • We have a kinderkot for our youngest to sleep in. It’s like a little pop up dome tent. It makes it that little bit darker but it also means that he can’t see when his sisters go to bed next to him otherwise he would want to stay up playing with them. Don’t stress about keeping kids clean if you are roughing it. Take some paints and go searching for rocks. Then you can paint them and do a rock drop for others to find. There are specific fb pages to post your rocks.

  • There are some great tips here! I hope you have a fabulous time.

  • Always take more warm clothes than you think as the night can be cold. Try to keep busy while camping to help your little ones wear out making sleep time easier as it can be difficult for them to adjust to sleeping in a new environment

  • oh, can’t help, came here for the answers. We’re planning on camping for the first time this year. So much work to organise.

  • We camp with our 2, when little we used a porta cot, then little camping bed with sleeping bags attached, now aged 5 and 7 we use swags.
Activities we usually find things that are around an simple, beach or river/lake, parks, walks swimming. For rainy days books/drawing/craft.

  • Adults sleep near the entrance of the tent so little ones cannot get out.
Ensure you pack walking shoes, long socks, insect repellant, sunscreen, hats, a ball. Plenty of food & snacks. Make sure you work out what utensils you need to make the meals and minimize where possible.

  • Also; a good idea is to visit a camping store for some ideas on camping site set ups and for gadgets and products that might be useful for camping. Staff in the store are also good for chatting to and getting questions answered and some support.

  • We love camping and being organised for the trip is my best tip. I use lots of snap lock bags and easily stackable containers. I pack plenty of spare clothing and plenty of food, drinks and snacks. Add in favourite books, activities and toys for quiet settle time. I label everything clearly too. It pays when you arrive at a camp site to set up your campsite like a little home and designate areas.

  • Just go with the flow. Enjoy the great outdoors and see what pops up from day to day. Hope it’s all smooth sailing

  • When camping we bring the eggshell foam and cover it for an extra mattress on our camp bed. It seems to give us a better nights sleep.
