Hello!

I tried making long grain brown rice in my rice cooker and it turned out to be a fluffy watery mess! So, I cooked it a little longer and then it stuck to the bottom and got very, very, very sticky! I rinsed the rice thrice and measured in double the water. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks MoM.

  • It does sound strange, are you using the brown rice button?

  • A rice cooker will switch itself off so I’d say you have the water levels wrong. It is always 1 part rice with 2 parts water and you cant go wrong . I use the finger trick which never fails . Put your middle finger IN the rice and use your thumb to measure the level , don’t take your thumb off . Then using same finger put it ON TOP of the rice and that is how much water you should have ( ie this will double the quantity of water ). Let the cooker do its work and when stopped , it will be perfect rice .

  • maybe it is getting a tad overcooked therefore sticking.

  • Have you still got your instruction booklet? it might say the different water levels required for brown rice.

  • We always still use the 1 rice to 2 water method… still works fine with brown rice in the cooker.

  • I always put the rice in and then put in the water until it’s about an inch from the top of the brown rice. That always works for me.
