Hello!

I have been gifted an Inox brand 51 piece silver cutlery set which has 12 place settings and 3 serving spoons. Is this type of cutlery dishwasher safe? Does it have to be washed as soon as it has been used? Do I need to polish it at regular intervals to keep them as shiny as new?

  • I think I am going to have to try some of the suggestions here – dug out my silverware at Christmas and it could do with a bit of a polish.

  • Congrats on the lovely gift, sparkling silver a joy to be hold.

  • Also; lucky you; sounds like a lovely set.

  • Thanks everyone for your help. @ Jowill, will certainly try the foil and baking soda, sounds likes dream not having to polish and scrub!!

  • I put my silver cutlery in the dishwasher infrequently, and find it doesn’t do any harm. I had been polishing mine with Enjo Marble Paste which doesn’t scratch, unitl I read the following tip from The Home Book: cover the base of a plastic container with aluminium foil and 3 tablespoons of bicarb of soda. Place your tarnished silverware on top and cover with boiling water. Wait until the bubbles disappear, remove, rinse and dry cutlery. It works like a charm!

  • Dishwashers may be used; however I hand wash silver.

  • There are also silver cleaning cloths you can use. I have to confess it is not a chore I enjoy because the smell of one type of cleaner liquid Silvo gives me a really bad headache.

  • Silverware is rather easy to care for. It is dishwater safe, however does need to be washed ASAP after use, so I suggest hand washing. If the handles are not silver and are ivory or other finish, only hand wash and keep the handles out of water. To soak will cause damage. Egg will quickly tarnish and vinegar will cause damage. Polish on an regular basis, it does not take long to use a silver polish. There is nothing as beautiful silverware, tomenhance avset table,
    enjoy it.
