Hello!

Toddler stuttering when tired – My 27 month old daughter has been speaking very well since she was about 18 months old. In recent months she has started stuttering on a few words. Does anyone else have a toddler that stutters at times, particularly when tired? I have read that this is common for toddlers with no need to see a speech pathologist unless the problem persists for longer than 6 months, but would like to hear whether any other mums have dealt with this.

  • We haven’t dealt with it, but if it’s clearly linked to physical tiredness, then I suspect it isn’t a big problem.

  • This is very common and nothing to worry about. I even fall over my words when I’m tired or say things the wrong way around.

  • there are some good comments here

  • thast just what happens . dont worry

  • Hope this has been resolved for you. Did you see a childs nurse or gp?

  • If you are concerned I’d speak with you gp or child health nurse.

  • Sounds common but good to keep an eye on it

  • How is she doing now?

  • how did it turn out?

  • Was it to do with the tiredness? Did you find out?

  • How are you going? What did you end up doing?

  • I’ve not experienced this with either of mine. I hope it is just a phase for you. If you are concerned I would speak to your child care nurse.

  • Sorry I haven’t but maybe try and as soon as she is somewhat tired then get her to sleep, maybe she cant concentrate that much and cant put words together when she is

  • Maybe she is lacking concentration so it happens when tired.

  • I have never heard of it, I hope it is just a phase for your little one
