Hi, I am after some tips for toilet training a 2.5 year old boy!? He will do wees in the toilet but absolutely positively refuses to do a poo! I have rewards for him sitting up on the shelf that he really really wants but it just isn’t enough to persuade him to do his poos on the toilet. Any ideas would be welcomed!!

  • I think they get scared when it comes to the poo’s in the loo. More time and encouragement is all he needs.

  • It can take a little longer for them to do poos in the toilet sometimes, it seems to be a common problem. He’ll get there, just keep reminding him, and be patient.

  • My son likes to read a book on the toilet when he has a poo. Maybe that would help as poos can take time and its pretty boring sitting on the toilet with nothing to do.

  • A small portable toilet his size would be a start

  • My sus I meant my sis

  • My sus had same problem. Boys r jus later
    LEarners. He will eventually

  • When he is ready he will do them in the toilet

  • Try this link with expert experience it might help, good luck =). http://www.babycenter.com/404_how-can-i-encourage-my-2-year-old-to-have-a-bowel-movement-o_69883.bc

  • Try buying Thomas or other Disney character he likes reward chart hang it on the bathroom wall and tell him When he does poos he puts a sticker on the chart, hope this works =}

  • It’s great that he is already weeing in the toilet, and I’m assuming he stands to do them? But maybe for poos he doesn’t feel comfy enough on the big seat sitting, and maybe just needs a potty. Just have one right outside the toilet. Eventually he’ll be on the toilet, so don’t worry.

  • * PATIENCE too ;)

  • I will be reading all these answers for advice myself as my 26 month old son isn’t far off. from my experience with my first two children (now 12 and 13) PATEINCE is the key and to let them guide you. Good luck (to all of us about to go there!)

  • do you have a smaller toilet seat for him and a foot stool for him to place his feet on maybe so he doesn’t feel like he’s falling or dangling?? – does he ask for a nappy to do no.2s in or would he just go in his undies?? can you see a routine in his wanting to do no.2s and can take him – like my boys would normally go after they’ve had brekkie so i knew around that time to take them or watch for signs…update us when you can on how he’s going. best of luck with it all :)

  • I would pop him on there and just hold on to him, we got a toilet seat with steps and that worked great we did have to put him on the first couple of time but after that he learnt it was not so scary as they do think they are going to fall in so just hold on the them be there with them reassure him that its okay he will get the hang of it
