Hello!

Any tips on flying with an active 1 year old? We’ve requested a bassinet seat. It’s international so we will have to be at the airport early, tips on entertainment then too?

  • Toys. Mostly yourself. If you’re lucky, the flight crew might come along and whisk him away for some fun to give you a break

  • I made my son a busy bag, I bought lots of different toys and didn’t show him until we were on the plane and used them during his restless periods. The bassinet is great and does help a lot too, they can sleep or even sit in them if there’s no turbulence. Some airlines are strict on their use but we found most flexible and happy for our son to play in his when awake.

  • We’re about to with a one year old…. How did you go? I have copious amounts of food, small cars, some done loaded Tv shows… Hope it’s enough

  • Hopefully, the air hostesses will help out and take bub off your hands for a little while

  • When we traveled with our little one I made sure to let her play and wear out before the flight. Then I packed snacks, snacks, snacks! Along with coloring books, a few downloaded movies, puzzles, and other sit down activities. We also brought a pillow and cuddle bunny for naptime. She did really well.

  • Good question; following the answers.

  • We have travelled a lot with our 2 children from when they were babies (they are 13 months apart), we would get a couple of small new toys to integrate when needed during the flight, snuggle blanket and their favorite toy to help settle them and relax them to the new surroundings, bottle (if needed), stickers and a notebook, and best of all ‘Rescue Remedy’, it is a natural homeopathic drop solution which helps them to relax if they are stressed at all (available at health stores and chemists). We found if we tried to be relaxed and as organised as possible it would also have a healthy effect on the children. Happy travels :)

  • Very hard traveling with a little one but maybe few toys not to sure but good luck with your travels and a safe one.

  • it is hard to entertain a 1 year old. good luck with your travelling

  • Depending how long the flight is. But I took my daughter on a 5 hour flight when she was 1, I just had food and milk ready for her. As they have TVs on all seats just be prepared to watch kids shows, take a few books to read as well.. They baby should also sleep a lot

  • Try and tire the little one out as much as possible (and practical) before the flight. Having a wide variety of things to keep little hands & mind occupied (like crayons & paper, stickers, picture books, cuddly toys) will help. If you’re really concerned about your little one disturbing others on the flight, it may be worth asking your doctor if there’s something natural that you could give your child to calm them down.

  • take little gifts that they can unwrap and play with

  • i travelled Qld- Adelaide with a walking 10month old. Before the flight i let her run around the seated areas, she made lots of little friends. Unfortunately it didn’t tire her out enough and the flight was pretty hard work, she just wanted to run down the aisle. But maybe a 1 year old will be easier as they understand more, maybe get some fisher price games on your phone and LOTS of snacks!!

  • Take a special bag with small snacks, toys, books and stickers. If you have an iPad that could be a good idea too. At the airport we allow running around supervised as much as possible, walking a lot to tire them.
