Hello!

My daughter is 3 & still has a bottle of milk before bed. I tell her she is a big girl now so she doesn’t need a bottle. Is it wrong for her to be still drinking from a bottle or are there a lot more others out there that still do as well? I would still allow her to have a cup of milk before bed but it just seems that she is a little old for a bottle. How do I wean her off the bottle?

  • I always replaced bottles with sippy cups at around 2 and got rid of the bottles. We never had any dramas.

  • For my daughter, she kind of just weened herself off when she was ready. But I know of a parent who with all her kids whether it was a dummy or a bottle whatever is was.. (she had trouble) she would hang up a stocking/bag on xmas eve and tell them it was time, now that they were growing up they had to leave santa their dummy or bottle, so he could take it and leave them some lovely big girl/boy presents. And you know for some reason it worked everytime. They forgot about them completely because they had all those new toys etc.

  • Stand your ground mum, even months after not drinking from a bottle I still get requests for a bottle… answer NO!!! You a big girl now not a baby.
I threw them all out I told her. I didn’t though, they are stored away for the next ;)

  • Friends little girl had the same issue, we had a new baby calf that was very ill, told her the baby calf needed the bottle to be able to feed and survive. She went cold turkey no problem. Not that you have a sick calf but transferring it to anyone she can sympathize with their need may work…otherwise I would gradually start watering down the milk a little more each night so in a couple of weeks its straight water and not so attractive. Good luck!

  • how did you go? my boy crys and has a tantrum so we give in and give him the bottle (3.5 yrs)

  • Take Bub shopping and let them choose a special cup, make it exciting. Having said that the bottle is obviously a comfort to her so I would just ride with it if taking it away will cause anxiety. Best of luck

  • try to sit bub down and give him the bottle but without the teat on, then move to a toddler cup or straight onto a cup at that age. start with water and that’s so much easier to clean up than other drinks. you’ll be surprised how quickly they can latch onto using a cup. within a week for my children

  • I’m not stressing about it I’m just preparing I guess. I do realise there is more important things to worry about. It was only a question

  • Water the milk down so it wont be as appetising for her

  • Junior cups…they are great!

  • Still battling with my little man guess it just takes time :)

  • We dropped milk in the bottle once when he was sick and didnt want it. however now my little man goes to bed with a bottle of water ;-(.
My sister started by offering the bottle of milk before bed, then once she was used to that moved the milk into a cup? maybe try that?

  • We are having this exact same problem with my 2yo. We are finding it a real struggle

  • My daughter was the same. She loved her milk in a bottle – not a cup or sippy cup etc. Eventually we changed the milk to a drink bottle (like a sports bottle) and then she just went off it all together. I think it was more the routine than the actual milk but I let her go with it and she got rid of it when she was ready. More important things to stress about with kids to be honest

  • I give my daughter either some water before bed or a drink bottle with water.. but the drink bottle has an anti spill top.
