If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t do it. All children mature differently and every school walk is different, so I don’t think there is a black and white answer to this. The RTA recommend that all children hold an adults hand when crossing the road until they are 10 because they don’t have the ability to gauge the speed of an oncoming car and make a safe to cross decision, if that helps. Some things I would be asking myself are, is the school crossing manned, if not could it have a crossing guard on it, could he walk with an older student or another family.
