  • my eldest kids are two years apart then we have a huge gap of 11 years and two younger kids that are also two years apart. I was single in the middle then suffered 4 and a half years with infertility and a miscarriage. Two of my step children are 10 months apart and that is horrible, they get treated as twins in class at school and they are not and they hate every minute of it

  • My daughters are 3.5 years apart. Eldest is now 5 and a half and youngest is two. They have a great bond but they do fight alot as well.

  • Our daughter was almost 4 when our son was born. She was at a very understanding age and is a wonderful help. Baby Finn is currently 5 months old and is in absolute awe of his big sister.

There is no ideal age gap as everyone is different, but I’m glad we waited until we did.

  • 14, 13, 9 & 5yr old.
Between the eldest two we’ve only 12months and 3weeks, which was lovely as they grew up really close to each other.

  • My kids are 14 (in August), 11 this month and 7 (in October). The older two find my youngest a bit annoying sometimes.

  • 3.5 years and it works well for us.

I think whatever the age gap, you’ll adapt to having two kids.

  • 22month between my daughter and son. They are 2yo and 9mo.

    Would not change a thing

  • I don’t know there’s any ‘right’ gap. We had #2 a little earlier than planned and wouldn’t change a thing – they’re 23months apart. My advice is if you feel ready go for it!

  • 3 years exactly. Its worked well for us. My eldest, was fully toilet trained & emotionally ready for a younger sibling. My youngest is 3 and I dont think he would cope with a younger baby.

  • Thanks all. I have a lot to think about but this helps a lot. It’s great to get advice from other mothers. Thankyou x

  • There’s a 6 year gap between them :)

  • There are 19 months between my 2, would have been 20 but my son came 4 weeks early.

  • About two years between each – but we would have had them closerif we could.

  • So many factors to take into consideration. How much support you have. How you have recovered from the previous birth and what it is you want to do work wise and how easy your first child is to look after. Of course even when you take everything into consideration and decide what you think is best for you and your family you may be thrown out timing wise by things out of your control but I think ultimately there are pros and cons of every situation. I am currently pregnant with my second and my first is 19 months old so they will be less than two years apart so I am about to get first hand experience but I have had so many different opinions and advice that ultimately you need to do what will work in with your family.

  • I have an 11 year old 8 year old 6 year old and one due in August. I found with the two middle ones when they were little was very hands on as had a baby while one was still little and very much a baby but wouldn’t change it for the world
