“What is a good gap between children? My daughter is now 18 months old and we have been thinking about trying for a second bub. can any mums tell me about their experience and what has worked for them? Should we wait a while or is having them close together a good idea? Thanks”

  • I had 18 month nd it was hard at first but now it’s alot better

  • In the long run, having them closer is better

  • ive got 2 and 3/4 and its pretty good. id prob say 2.5 yrs to 3.5 yrs

  • my daughters are 4 and 20 months old. I love the age gap between them. They play nicely together now and I can see how they will be best friends as they get older and look after each other.

  • My children are 3 years apart and I think it was a good gap for me as it gave me time with both alone while they were babies. I also loved that I didn’t have 2 in nappies at the same time or 2 needing bottles at the same time.

  • No one can really answer this but you, there are a pros and cons to small and large age gaps.

  • I feel 2-3 years is a good gap but it is a person choice really

  • I have just shy of 19 months difference between my two and its been great so far.

  • I found a 2 year gap good – that way they can grow up being reasonably close.

  • I think it depends on the individual and what you think you can cope with.

  • What gap did you decide?

  • I have 13 years but I don’t recommend it. And would you believe they still fight. But miss two wins and miss 15 yells out for help thy her sister is hurting her.

  • Great gap! But in saying that my sis and I are bout 6 apart n we are really close!

  • When you get older its nice when you have sisters, brothers close to your age. I think 2 year gap is good.

  • Agree with sallty, I’ve seen families with kids close together and families with kids far apart and they all seem to work well. I had mine close together (23 months) because I wanted to get all the nappies, toilet training, etc over in one hit. They fight a lot and can really test my patience but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It really is a personal choice.
