Hello!

For the past few weeks my left rib has been incredibly painful, particularly at night. I can’t do much because everything I do creates discomfort. Breath, cough, sneeze, sleep, sitting or making any sudden moves hurts. Pretty much everything!

I’m only 21 weeks now and it’s been this way for about 4 wks, surely bub can’t be kicking that hard? I’m not sure what to do, can someone give me some advice?

  • Never had this. Would get it checked as soon as possible. And anything else that might be different or bothering you. You can always see a bulk billing doctor if necessary. They are really good.

  • I would perhaps arrange an earlier appt. unless you have one very soon. Your baby may up too higher and pushing on your ribs. A friend of mine had the same symptoms. The Obst. was able to push the baby down away from her ribs.

  • I’m having pain at the bottom of my right ribs, very uncomfortable, have been to the Dr but need to go back

  • Could be Bub is laying on a nerve?

  • I had something Similar… it was the small muscles between the ribs.

  • I had the same thing and it turned out to be a pinched nerve but the drs were quite worried about some other problems so go see your dr asap

  • I’d get it checked out. The cartlidge in my ribs were fractured after my second baby, but it also was at the end and she was big while I’m little.

  • It’s probably just the position bubs has got into. I’m sure your doctor can check it out :)

  • Yep Dr or midwife visit recommended by me also. Best wishes to you and all the best.

  • I’d speak to your doctor hopefully bub is just leaning on your rib

  • you may have a hairline fracture or something – being the rib theres not much that can be done other then rest and usually takes around 6 weeks to heal.. hoping not though! definitely mention it to your Dr or Midwife :)

  • I think i would be mentioning it at your next appointment or if thats to far away maybe just pop to see your gp.

  • It can be bub pushing all your organs and bits and pieces all up into your rib cage etc but I would definitely see the dr or midwife pregnancy can be uncomfortable good luck

  • Hi I mainly got pains in the ribs towards the end ,if you are really uncomfortable go to your dr just to put your mind at ease , everyone’s pregnancies can be so different, might be just the position bub is in but worthwhile talking to a midwife or dr
