Hello!

Would love to eat fish but not sure what is good or bad?

  • I think only tuna in excess is dangerous – it’s because of mercury levels. I believe one or two serves a week is safe.

  • I try to always get advice from my gp and do some basic googling

  • I would suggest getting the most up to date information on what you can and cannot eat from your midwives team, GP or other health supports.

  • Not something I could event think about eating when I was pregnant – the thought made my stomach churn!

  • There are Australian dietary guidelines around fish and pregnancy. You can find them at: http://www.eatforhealth.gov.au

  • mainly shellfish are the issue. Tuna is ok and so is most common types like basa etc if cooked and cleaned properly

  • I don’t think there’s a problem eating any kind of fish while pregnant, as long as it’s 100% cooked through. I think shellfish are the bigger worry for causing issues

  • yeah i ate tuna but i thought that you were supposed to keep it to like 2 cans a week. i only ate one every now and then. I recently was told to really restrict fish now because of what happened in japan and the radiation is going out into the ocean and therefore, the fish contain more radiation now, especially if they are caught from the water around japan.

  • Awesome I like salmon and tuna!

  • Thank you for that website :)

  • There’s a great NSW guideline document that gives all of the relevant information about fish and all food safety concerns during pregnancy. You can find it here … http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/_Documents/consumer_pdf/pregnancy-brochure.pdf
    Hope that helps :-)

  • I know for sure you can eat salmon, because that’s what I mainly eat, and you can have like 4 cans of tuna a week which is great for sandwiches.
