Hello!

I am a novice but want to start growing my own veggies. I’m looking for ideas on what veggies to plant now.

  • I’ll be trying the beans!

  • Beans, broccoli and carrots. I’ve tried growing these and only had luck with the beans. I hope you have more success than I did.

  • I think beans, beets, broccoli, pumpkin, carrots, parsnips, turnips, onion, leek, garlic, potato’s do well in winter or actually whole year around.

  • We love our veggie garden. It was hard work at first but we’re getting much better at knowing what to plant and when. I ask lots of questions at my local Bunnings and read the seed packets to make sure I plant the right things at the right times of year.

  • Well it may be a bit late though pumpkins and garlic are good ones

  • Spring onions are good to grow and broad beans too. Garlic is my favourite veggie to grow in winter.

  • You definitely need to find out what is suitable for your climate. If you are going to grow them from seed the have a map of Australia on the back. You work out which area you are in. On the packet it should be printed when to plant the seed, how to take care of them including preparing your soil, fertilising if needed and how much water they need. Some vegetables are a lot easier to grow than others. The staff at Garden Centres are trained to give the correct information for the area you live in.

  • Potato, carrots any root veggies are good

  • Start off small and grow a vegetable garden.

  • I go to my garden centre to get advice on the best veg for the season.
It does depend on the area you live in and what will grow well.
I use the time to prepare, plan and do garden maintenance.
