Hello!

I’ve decided to stop fighting technology and buy my son a tablet for Christmas. He will be 3 1/2 by then but hasn’t really got much experience with them. Nor do I. I have an Android phone and my husband has an iPhone but neither of us really feel passionately either way. My son has played with his grandmother’s iPad, and knows it has fun games on it but that’s the extent of our experience with them. Are there any particularly user friendly tablets that would be good for younger children? Both my husband and I are good with technology but I want something my son won’t find too hard to drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

  • We just bought 3 Apple iPad’s from ebay for $75 dollar each, pre-owned but in perfect condition !! We shopped around for cases but ended up buying the cases as well from ebay for $7 each

  • Any cheap tablet is nice to start with. My youngest has a Lenovo.

  • we have a leapfrog leappad – it is essentially a tablet for kids. It has a range of kid-friendly games and you can buy extra games to go with it. It is durable and specifically designed for kids – doesn’t go onto youtube or anything else you wouldnt want the kids on. Other than that most tablets are about the same for kids – just get a durable cover for it and put on parental blocks for content you don’t want them to access.

  • We have used the kids Smart Tab tablets and think they are just incredible!
They are designed for children & are built to tolerate the wear & tear & little accidents that can happen with children.
They also have parental controls which was a major bonus for us.
I’ve included a picture so you can see what I’m talking about.
I’m pretty sure you can buy them from Big W & Kmart.
    Best of luck!

  • My daughter is the same age and I got her a cheap version of a tablet so she learns not to break or throw it first. She likes it & learns on it. Only $10

  • Excellent advice the polaroid 7″ tablets from jbhifi for $80 each sound good!

  • i have previously bought two kids tablets from big w and i just don’t think they are a good device for young children. it isn’t easy to use and i always have my almost 4 yr old asking for assistance in how to use it. we also have 2 iPads in the house. both of the kids know how to use them really well and we have protective covers on them. i recommend spending the extra money.

  • well considering that children will drop them and crack the screen- inevitable- go for the cheapie options. We just got 2 polaroid 7″ tablets from jbhifi for $80 each and my eldest has the lenova tablet which was $99 also from jb. She had an asus tab (about$250) and her siblings dropped it lol. It still works though. They have gone through a couple of ds’s and a 3ds, a leap pad and my old laptop. Lol. You can get free games from the google play store and make sure you deactivate the net so that ad’s don’t pop up while your child is using the apps. We try to make them sit down with their things but children are quick and you turn your back for a second and they will be walking around with it.
